In a significant escalation of tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border, the Islamic Resistance of Lebanon, also known as Hezbollah, launched a simultaneous attack on 19 Israeli military bases and headquarters. This marked a major shift in the dynamics of the conflict, with Hezbollah entering the war with full force.

The Attack
They carried out the operation on November 2, 2023 (Thursday). Hezbollah announced that it had targeted the headquarters of several Israeli military bases and outposts. The attack was part of a wide-scale operation during which 19 Israeli military bases and outposts were targeted.

In a first for the group, Hezbollah used two drones packed with explosives to attack an Israeli army command position in the disputed Shebaa Farms area at the Lebanese-Israeli border. This marked the first time that Hezbollah has declared carrying out an attack against Israeli forces using such drones.

The Context
The assault came ahead of a speech by Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah. The timing of the attack suggests that it may be related to Nasrallah’s upcoming address. The region has been on high alert in anticipation of Nasrallah’s speech.

The Aftermath
Following the attack, Israel launched a “broad assault” in response. Warplanes and helicopters were used to attack Hezbollah targets “in response to fire from Lebanese territory earlier today, together with attacks with artillery and tank fire” according to the Israeli military.

Looking Ahead
As tensions continue to rise along the Lebanon-Israel border, all eyes are now on Hassan Nasrallah’s upcoming speech. The recent events have stoked fears of a regional conflagration, and Nasrallah’s address will likely provide further insight into Hezbollah’s strategy moving forward. The international community will undoubtedly be watching closely as events unfold.
